JOB DESCRIPTION: C.E.T.P. Volunteer Trainer (Canine Enrichment & Training Program)
GOAL: The goal of the C.E.T.P. Volunteer is to help make our animals more adoptable by improving their physical appearance and/or behaviors. Many of the animals that you will be working just need to be given direction on how to have manners with people.
SUPERVISOR: Animal Behavior Consultant, Team Captains and/or Volunteer Coordinator
TIME COMMITMENT: C.E.T.P. Trainers must be available at least three times per week for an hour to an hour and a half per session.
AVAILABLE TIMES: Must come once per week to train with Animal Behavior Consultant or Trainer. Additional times for this position depend on the schedules of the volunteers and the Team Captains.
DUTIES: The C.E.T.P. Trainer Volunteer will be one of the most critical positions a volunteer can do to help find our animals a home. Duties include basic training commands (sit, off, etc.), proper manners, walking on a leash without pulling, socializing, bathing and brushing. The C.E.T.P. Volunteer will also be distributing KONGs and other toys for mental stimulation.
TRAINING: Completion of Volunteer Orientation. Additional training will be given by the Animal Behavior Consultant or other Trainer.
QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer individual with past training experience with own dog. Must have the ability to work well with both people and animals. Must have a strong desire to learn as much as possible about the emotional and physical needs of a wide variety of animals. Must be able and willing to handle animals who are shy or rambunctious and be willing to learn how to “read” an animal’s actions and behaviors to make appropriate decisions for training them. C.E.T.P. Volunteers must also be able to follow exact instructions and work independently. MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE.
