General and Seasonal Tips for Pet Owners

Holiday Feast Safety for You and Your Pet

Your fabulous feast lies before you on the table. Everyone is gathered around, laughing, talking and eating. And your pet’s beseeching, eager eyes look at you with adoration and hunger, begging for a morsel. Before you give Fido a treat, here are a few things to consider:

  • Too much fatty, rich, or new types of food can give your pet pancreatitis or gastroenteritis. Both can be very painful or become quiet serious and require serious medical attention.

  • Bones can tear, poke holes in or obstruct your pet’s organs.

  • Onions, often found in stuffing, can destroy a dog’s red blood cells, leading to anemia.

Keep your pet happy by giving him a holiday feast of his own. Try a catnip treat, a special chewy, some canned pet food, or a few tablespoons of peanut butter stuffed in a favorite tube toy.
