Cat Behavior Problems

Spraying

cat-spray.gif (3492 bytes)The first step is to get your cat neutered or spayed. That should reduce or eliminate the spraying behavior.

Indoor cats sometimes spray when they see new cats through the window. Try to block the cat's access to the window until the new cat can be removed.

Outdoor cats spray to mark their territory so other neighborhood cats and roaming strays know to stay away.

Cats sometimes begin to spray when there are too many other cats in the home. If reducing the number of cats is not possible, talk to your veterinarian about the possibility of medication or consult an animal behaviorist.

Removing the spraying scent is important to prevent other accidents. Use an odor neutralizer such as Febreeze or a solution of water and vinegar to remove all traces of urine from areas your cat has sprayed.
