The loss of an animal friend can be one of life's most difficult experiences. More than just a pet, he or she was your playmate and trusted confidante. Your faithful pal provided companionship, acceptance, emotional support, and unconditional love during the time you shared together.

Just as you have always cared about your pet's health and comfort, we are concerned with the safe and humane disposition of your pet after its passing. Since 2002, we've provided private pet cremation as a service to those facing the loss of a pet. Our high quality of care and attention to detail, coupled with our dedication to serving the needs of pet owners and their beloved pets, has helped thousands of people honor the memory of their adored animal companion.

Private pet cremation offers you many options in choosing your pet's final resting place and, by using our pet cremation service, you’re financially supporting our mission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose cremation?
Many pet owners choose cremation because it provides them with numerous ways to memorialize their beloved pets. It also gives you unlimited time to consider how you would best like to honor your pet, whether keeping the urn in a special place in your home or burying or scattering the ashes in your yard or other favorite place.

What is cremation?
Cremation is a simple, dignified, and environmentally efficient method of reducing the body to ash using high heat and flame. The remains are then placed in a urn of your choosing. The entire process is completed on site at the Kansas Humane Society and is directly supervised by a highly trained and compassionate Kansas Humane Society technician.

Do you provide cremation services for all pets?
We currently provide cremation services for dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, chinchillas, lizards, snakes, fish and other domesticated pets. At this time, we do not provide cremation services for horses, cows or other livestock.

How can I be sure I am receiving my pet's remains?
We have rigorous ethical standards with detailed record keeping and operating procedures to virtually eliminate the potential for human error. You also will receive a Certificate of Authenticity signed by our technicians when your pet's remains are returned to you.

How do I arrange private cremation of my pet?
Your veterinarian will contact the Kansas Humane Society for you. The clinic staff will take care of all the details and make the necessary arrangements with us. Or, if you prefer, you can make the arrangements directly through us.

What is the cost of this service?
The charge for one private cremation of a pet (dog, cat, or small mammal) is $120. This fee may be paid directly to your veterinarian (if we pick up the pet at the clinic) or at our shelter. Revenues generated by this service help provide food, care and shelter for the 13,500 homeless and unwanted pets we take in every year.

Do I need an urn?
We will provide you with your choice of a complimentary two very simple urns, cardboard or brushed brass urn. Or you can order one of our custom urns that can be personalized with names, dates or photographs.
