Admissions Specialist

 

The major function of an Admissions Specialist is to provide Kansas Humane Society clients with a high degree of customer service and meet the needs of animals in a timely manner.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

▪Provide all clients with courteous, professional, and prompt customer service

regardless of circumstances.

 

▪Complete intake procedures for animals entering the Kansas Humane Society.

 

▪Use safe and appropriate animal handling techniques at all times.

 

▪Administer vaccinations, assist/perform drawing of blood samples and/or fecal

samples and perform lab work.

 

▪Provide telephone coverage for the Admissions Department.

 

▪Assist with the implementation of the KHS Lost Pet Program.

 

▪Contact customers who have relinquished animals and inform them of the outcome

for the pet.

 

▪Perform multiple tasks in a high-stress, emotionally-charged environment.

 

▪Assist with daily animal care and cleaning that includes the removal of animal waste

and sanitize animal holding area with appropriate chemicals.

 

▪Assist other staff with the proper restraint to calm animals during medical procedures

 

▪Accurate documentation of all services performed.

 

▪Work with Certified Euthanasia Technicians to properly restrain and calm animals during the euthanasia process.

 

 

▪Send sympathy cards to owners of Owner Requested Euthanasia pets.

 

▪Report any issues with clients, facility, equipment or supplies to Admissions

Supervisor or Director of Shelter Operations as appropriate.

 

▪Complete lost reports and maintain lost and found boards.

 

▪Escort clients looking for lost animals; provide reclaim information to clients.

 

▪Implement the Kansas Humane Society Prevent A Litter (PAL) program.

 

▪Work efficiently and respectfully with others.

 

▪Participate in staff training, development and cross training programs.

 

▪Perform other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications

 

▪A background in customer service is preferred.  A commitment to the human

animal bond as well as the humane treatment of both people and animals is a must.

 

▪Must prefer and have the ability to cope with physically and emotionally  

demanding work.

 

▪Exercise good judgment and make independent decisions with limited supervision.

 

▪Must have the patience of a Saint and effectively deal with emotionally distraught and some times hostile clients.

 

Working Conditions

 

▪Subject to exposure to loud noises, extreme hot/cold weather, infectious disease,

foul odors, and potentially aggressive animals.  Contacts with deceased animals

can occur.

 

▪Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting (75 lbs.), carrying

(75bs.), pushing (75 lbs.), pulling (75 lbs.), climbing, balancing, stooping,

kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching overhead, seeing, depth perception, and

color vision. 

 

▪May be required to work in excess of normal work day(s) and work weekends

 and holidays.  Scheduled hours may vary based on the needs of the agency.

 

 

Supervision

 

Supervision for this position is provided by the Admissions Supervisor.
