KHS Project Companionship

Those of us who love animals know first-hand the wonderful joy and companionship they bring.

But for many people in our society, owning a pet is no longer an option. The Kansas Humane Society's program, "Project Companionship" is designed to bring some of the joy of animals back into the lives of nursing home residents.

Trained Project Companionship volunteers take carefully selected shelter animals to visit local nursing homes and other adult care facilities. During the visit, volunteers take the animals around to get acquainted with the residents. Simply holding or stroking the animal brings about happy memories and conversations about cherished pets, and brightens the day of the residents, animals and volunteers alike. Participating in Project Companionship is truly a rewarding experience.
