Please allow enough time to properly relinquish your
pet. The admissions process may take 45 to 60 minutes. We
will request some background information about your pet
and ask you to fill out a questionnaire telling us about
your pet and his or her time with you. This helps us
place your pet in a home that is appropriate for them.
SAVE TIME BY FILLING OUT THE PET HISTORY FORM IN ADVANCE:

My Cat's History (PDF)
My Small Animal's History (PDF)

We suggest an amount of $5 to $50 for animals
relinquished; however, no pet will be turned away
because of an owner’s inability to pay. All donations are greatly appreciated and help to offset
a portion of the cost of caring for the 17,000 pets we
receive each year. |

Bringing your pet to the Kansas Humane Society can be
a difficult decision to make. We would like you to
know that we understand how hard it can be to
relinquish a beloved pet and appreciate your choice
to surrender your animal responsibly so that he or
she will be safe and humanely cared for.
As a private, nonprofit organization dependent on
community contributions, we request a donation when
an animal is admitted to us.
If your pet is placed for adoption, we will make
every reasonable effort to find your pet(s) a new
home. We cannot make any guarantee that your pet(s)
will be placed for adoption or be adopted. Other
options we may explore for your pet include
breed-rescue groups, transfer to another shelter, or
humane euthanasia.
You may choose to reclaim your pet through our Callback Program in the event that your pet is not a candidate for our adoption program. Please ask an Admissions staff member for details.
“Let’s Stay Together” Scholarship Program
One of the best ways to end euthanasia in our community is to prevent pets coming to an animal shelter at all.
If you are considering giving up your pet to the Kansas Humane Society because of behavioral issues, you may qualify for our new “Let’s Stay Together” scholarship program, funded by the Banfield Charitable Trust.
This scholarship program will provide you FREE resources so that you may be able to keep your pet and live happily together. Scholarship recipients may receive one-on-one counseling, obedience training classes, spay/neuter services and more, all at no cost to them. Limited number of scholarships available. Please ask an Admissions staff member for details.

One of the best features of the Murfin Animal Care
Campus is how animals are first admitted to
the Kansas Humane Society and Wichita Animal
Services. All pets being relinquished by their
owners will go directly to the KHS Admissions
Department where they will receive a thorough
evaluation and necessary vaccinations.
All lost or stray animals will be admitted to
Wichita Animal Services, where they will stay for
three days to give their owners time to find them.
At the end of those three days, all animals that are
adoptable or potentially adoptable will be
transferred to the Kansas Humane Society. Prior to adoption, all dogs and cats will be spayed
or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated in our
medical clinic.
Unfortunately during our busy summer season, when we
admit nearly 1,500 pets a month, we are unable to
guarantee that all adoptable animals will be
transferred. We are working diligently to continue
to save as many animal lives as possible, leading us
to our vision of ending the unnecessary
euthanasia of adoptable pets by 2014.
This transfer system allows each
organization to focus on their strengths, increases
the chance that lost pets will be reunited with
their owners, and ensures that every animal adopted
from the Murfin Animal Care Campus is spayed or
neutered, ultimately decreasing the number of
homeless pets in our community.
